Shorter horizons outperform long-range plans
Technology roadmap and strategy
The organizations that execute technology roadmaps most reliably are not the ones with the most detailed long-range plans. They are the ones with clear near-term commitments and explicit criteria for deciding what gets added or changed. A 90-day horizon with high confidence beats an 18-month plan with low confidence. The value of planning farther out is in establishing direction and making sequencing decisions, not in committing to specific deliverables that will change anyway as the business evolves.

I work as a fractional CIO or CTO for companies that need senior technology leadership without a full-time hire.
